Addressing a Practice Gap and Need

Clinicians are often faced with difficult situations and patient management challenges in determining whether and when patients will leave work, stay at work or return to work (SAW/RTW) as a result of illness or injury.

This series of Work Disability Prevention webinars was developed in response to requests from clinicians who attended last year's introductory CME program entitled Practical Things They Didn't Teach You in Medical School: Evidence-Based Clinical Decision-Making About Patients and Work.

Work disability prevention and management has been in a medical blind spot.  Most physicians get no formal training in medical school or residency on the powerful role they can play in preventing needless work disability and helping people stay employed.

Educational Objectives

As a result of participating in this series of 10 free webinars, clinicians will:
  • Feel more prepared to respond appropriately to common difficult issues that frequently arise in SAW/RTW.
  • Be able to identify the non-medical issues at play in a challenging SAW-RTW situation.
  • Be able to select an approach that will leave the patient feeling heard and satisfied while preventing needless work disability.
